INTERVIEW – Mother of a 9-year-old Adèle suffering from cerebral palsy, Clémence anticipates all the difficulties looming on the horizon.

LE FIGARO. – What worries you most about Adèle’s education?

Clemency. – On paper, there are proposals to regulate and include disability at school. But the reality is very different, with a lack of effective resources and basic training, which all parents encounter. I speak with many adolescents and young adults who tell me all their difficulties. This is not reassuring.

What about his social life?

Relationships with peers are very important for children with disabilities. It is an essential element to their happiness. The playtime games are very motoric and she often finds herself pushed aside by her friends who think, with kindness, that with her hemiplegia it’s too dangerous for her. At college, it’s another story and I’m afraid she’ll feel even more isolated. And how can I protect her, prepare her when there are the first celebrations, the first loves?

I had to stop working to support him as best I could, it’s exhausting, because I have the impression that everything depends on me, that I have to fight for everything, and not to be supported…
