/ The Iraqi Digital Media Center (DMC) said on Tuesday that the development taking place in the country in the field of using electronic payment in financial transactions is proceeding at a rapid pace and in a steady hierarchy.

The center stated, in a statement received by Shafak News Agency, that this development in the technical field, which is happening for the first time in Iraq, requires the legislative institution represented by the Iraqi Council of Representatives to pay attention to digital legislation to protect citizens from any violation or transgression of financial data and users’ privacy.

For this reason, the center stresses, according to the statement, the need to expedite the approval of the law to combat information technology crimes, due to the urgent need for it at this time, in cooperation with organizations specialized in this field, while taking into account the importance of not infringing on freedom of expression as one of the constitutional guarantees.

The Digital Media Center indicates that Iraq has been very late in enacting digital laws related to protecting users from crimes committed in the virtual world, stressing the need for the texts of the law to include a new and modern vision to confront information technology crimes.
