Digital, Sree Narayana University VC Governor’s Show Cause Notice

Thiruvananthapuram: Governor’s show cause notice to vice chancellors of two universities in the state. Digital University and Sree Narayana Guru Open University have sent notices to the VCs. According to the Supreme Court’s verdict in the KTU case, Digital University VC Saji Gopinath and Sree Narayana Guru Open University VC Mubarak Pasha are not qualified to continue in their current positions, according to the show cause notice.

There are violations of UGC rules in the appointment of both. The governor’s notice says that the reason for not going out should be given by November 4. The deadline for replying to nine other VCs is November 3, while the deadline for replying to these two VCs is November 4. After hearing their explanation, the governor will proceed with further steps.

Meanwhile, Kerala University Vice-Chancellor VP Mahadevan Pillai, who retired today, should also give an explanation to the Governor. Doubts were raised whether the steps taken by the Governor regarding the resignation of the VCs should be followed as he had resigned. Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan sources said that the retired VCs should also give an explanation. The explanation is that he was the Vice-Chancellor at the time of the Supreme Court judgment and the appointments in violation of the UGC rules were invalid according to the court judgment.

Meanwhile, the CPM has also decided to intensify its protest against the governor. The Left Front has decided to participate in the protest in front of the Raj Bhavan on November 15. CPM state secretary MV Govindan will inaugurate the protest program. It has not been decided whether Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will participate in the protest. The information received from the leaders is that the matter will be decided later. There were earlier reports that the Chief Minister might attend.

Along with the protest program in front of Raj Bhavan, it has been decided to organize protest groups in all the district headquarters. It has also been decided to hold a meeting of Left Front leaders before the protest to evaluate the method of protest. But the protests against the governor have started from today. Protests will be held across the state today and tomorrow. A protest rally will be held at Palayam today at 5 pm. It is under the leadership of CPM state secretary MV Govindan.
