Ding allows you to make online top-ups or gifts from anywhere in the world
The company was started in 2006 with the purpose of building a system that would allow its users to top up their loved ones’ phones, even if they are in different countries. Through partnerships with some of the most important operators around the world, the platform currently provides effective and convenient services to deliver these top-ups as gifts that allow for maintaining communication from a distance.
Throughout its history, more than 500 million recharges have been carried out, sharing smiles with people in more than 150 countries.
In addition, one of the services they have introduced to their portfolio in recent years are digital gift cards, partnering with companies present in Guatemala such as McDonald’s, La Torre, Subway, Sophos, Don Arturo Gas Stations, San Martín, Pollo Campero, Cemaco, Megapaca, MAX, Blue Medical, Farmacias Batres, Cruz Verde and Meykos, among others.
Carmen Cano is a Ding collaborator, born in Guatemala City, moved to Ireland for work reasons and has lived in Europe for several years. Since living in that country, he has gone through great life changes, making important friends, but also creating feelings of nostalgia for his home almost on the other side of the world.
Thanks to Ding, the company where she currently works, Carmen has managed to fill the void of being away from home, expressing: “Through Ding, I can send mobile top-ups to Guatemala so that family and friends can call me, call each other and connect to the internet easily.”
He also added: “This allows me to receive news from home, sometimes to remind me how to speak Spanish, and for a few minutes, even a few hours, to remind me of home. I have told many of my family and friends that if they ever need a Tigo or Claro refill, to let me know and I will help them out.”
Reconnecting from a distance
Being a woman proud of her roots, Carmen is excited to celebrate Guatemala’s Independence very soon. Even though the Guatemalan Embassy in London (the closest one Carmen has since she lives in Ireland) has told her that Ireland has a population of approximately 90 Guatemalans, the Chapina plans to meet with friends to share food and drinks, as well as listen to music from our country.
Carmen also wants to pamper her loved ones with emotional gifts from a distance. The Guatemalan explained: «Most cultures have strong gift-giving traditions, but I’ve always said that Guatemala’s are particularly strong. Of course we share gifts around the usual occasions like birthdays, weddings, as well as festivals like Christmas and baptisms; but we typically also give a small gift when we visit someone’s home. It’s never about the value, it’s about the intention.»
Sending physical gifts can be very expensive and impractical, especially for countries so far away. For this reason, Ding launched the Digital gifts in Guatemalaallowing loved ones abroad to share with Guatemalans gifts in seconds.
Carmen mentioned: “It’s really important to me that I can mark a birthday with a digital gift card to San Martin or out of the blue send someone a digital gift card to Pollo Campero, just to let them know I’m thinking of them.”
These are small gestures of kindness that can help express the good wishes of someone abroad, such as sharing a grocery gift card to help out the family or for a restaurant outing or birthday cake on special occasions. And the best thing is that we can make use of today’s technology to make the process easier.
