Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Diplomacy is still trying to gain the upper hand over a military intervention in Niger. A senior American diplomat, Victoria Nuland, said on Monday that she had met some of the perpetrators of the coup in Niamey. “These discussions were extremely frank and at times quite difficult,” she admitted, however. The leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), who are threatening to use force in Niger, will also meet again on Thursday in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. But, despite international pressure for a return to constitutional order, the new masters of Niamey did not back down and established their power. The soldiers responsible for the coup d’etat in Niger thus announced on Monday evening the appointment of a Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.

The legal battle will resume between the executive and the Uprisings of the Earth (SLT). The Council of State examines indeed this Tuesday an appeal filed by this environmental collective. The highest French administrative court was seized at the end of July according to an emergency procedure called “referred-suspension” by the SLT. This targets the decree of dissolution issued on June 21 by the government, which accuses the collective of “calling” for violence and “participating” in it. After having heard the parties, the Council of State should put its decision under advisement. A hearing on the merits must subsequently examine the legality of the decree of dissolution. Several associations and parties (including La France insoumise, EELV, Agir pour l’environnement, etc.) as well as hundreds of individuals have joined in the action of the Uprisings of the Earth.

At the Women’s World Cup, Australia will meet their opponent in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Brisbane on Tuesday. Only certainty, the coach will be French: Hervé Renard, at the head of the Blue, or Reynald Pedros, with the Lionesses of the Atlas. The France team will indeed challenge Morocco at 1 p.m. in a round of 16 between two countries with strong ties. The France of Wendie Renard and Kadidiatou Diani, 5th nation in the world, cannot afford the slightest misstep against the Moroccans, the lowest ranked team in the eighth (72nd). An elimination would indeed suddenly extinguish all the promises made by Hervé Renard, appointed in April at the head of the Blue.
