Invited to present the opening night of Bonito CineSur (Bonito South American Film Festival), actress Dira Paes said she was making a dream come true in Mato Grosso do Sul. In an interview with B sidesummed up the feeling by saying “I felt like I was already part of Bonito”.
With a hoarse voice, the actress explained that she took advantage of the last few days to discover the beauty of the city, despite the changes in temperatures. And, detailing her desire to be in Mato Grosso do Sul, she confessed that she left the state frustrated at the end of recording the soap opera Pantanal.
“It was a dream of mine long before Pantanal came into my life (going to Bonito), so I feel like I’m fulfilling a dream and uniting the two things I love most, which are nature and cinema”, explained Dira.
And, by uniting the two subjects, the actress pointed out that the relationship between them needs to exist. “Nature needs to be revered by us humans, we are responsible for it, after all, we degraded it to live on this planet.”
Seeing cinema as a tool for transformation, Paes argues that it can and should be used as an attitude of environmental defense, “cinema is our source of inspiration for all these issues to be addressed”, he says.
With this in mind, the presenter at the opening of CineSur also argued that the event is important because it is unprecedented nationally.
Here, you will have a reverence for South America that you don’t have at any other festival in Brazil. This creates a difference, a brotherhood and the possibility of dialogue, of relating with countries that are our sister countries.
