Al-Haouz and Taroudant, bereaved provinces
The province of Al-Haouz, where the epicenter of the earthquake was located, is the most bereaved with 1,293 deaths, followed by the province of Taroudant with 452 deaths. In these two areas located southwest of the tourist city of Marrakech, entire villages were wiped out by the earthquake.

A Frenchman died during the earthquake, eight others were injured
Saturday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of a Frenchman in Morocco, during the terrible earthquake which hit the country during the night from Friday to Saturday.
“We deplore the death of a French national in Agadir following a heart attack during the earthquake,” said the Quai d’Orsay. Eight other French people are injured and identified by the authorities.
A three-day national mourning has been declared
Morocco declared a three-day national mourning on Saturday, following the violent earthquake which left more than 2,000 dead in the country during the night from Friday to Saturday, the royal cabinet announced.
“A three-day national mourning has been decided, with flags at half-mast on all public buildings,” said a press release from the royal palace published by the official MAP agency, following a meeting chaired by King Mohammed VI devoted to the review of the situation after the earthquake.
