He assessed that whether directly or elected by the DPRD, the regional elections were still in accordance with the values of Pancasila.
According to him, assessing the two regional election systems cannot be done in black and white.
Because whether directly or indirectly, general elections are still a democratic system.
“Previously, in the closed era it was in the name of Pancasila democracy, now it is an open democracy which is said to be very liberal, also within the realm of Pancasila,” said Willy in Jakarta, Thursday (19/12).
According to him, so far the Indonesian people have not been able to determine a more Pancasilaist regional or election system.
However, he said that Bung Karno, as one of the figures who formulated Pancasila, did not want democracy to be carried out with compromises.
“In his speech on June 1, Bung Karno rejected mutual democracy, he chose consensus deliberation, which is called socio-democracy,” he said.
For this reason, Willy suggested that the formulation of the upcoming regional election system be carried out based on research from various groups.
From this research, the political system will be based on the needs of the Indonesian people for years to come.
He also wants the entire Faculty of Social and Political Sciences from various universities in Indonesia to discuss the future election system.
All parties, he said, need to carry out a survey even though it will not ultimately become a decision.
“Before there are any regrets, there will be no elections in the next four years, so this is not really urgent. Indonesia needs to take a breath, it needs research, developed countries are research-based,” said Willy. (Antara/jpnn)
