The CGT du Rhône takes note of the rejection of its appeal

“We will comply and we will commemorate outside the perimeter”, reacts on BFM TV Samuel Delor, of the CGT du Rhône, after the rejection of the union’s appeal against the ban on demonstrating at the Montluc prison memorial.

A rally is already scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Guillotière district.

Prohibited gatherings to avoid “casserolades”

In order to prevent any demonstration hostile to the Head of State on the sidelines of the commemorations, the Paris police headquarters has banned gatherings near the Champs-Elysées.

Same measure on the side of Lyon, where the prefecture of the Rhône has issued a similar decree in an area around the Memorial where Emmanuel Macron must go. The CGT filed an appeal against this ban, but it was rejected this morning.

In the Territory of Belfort, the rescue of 13,500 children reconstituted

This year, the association has chosen to honor the reception of children from the Territory of Belfort and the Pays de Montbéliard in Switzerland, very close to there.

Nearly 13,500 children fleeing famine and bombardment had found refuge in Swiss homes during the autumn of 1944, as part of a large-scale humanitarian operation led at the time by the Red Cross.

Jean Moulin at the heart of the tribute

The resistant, arrested on June 21, 1943 in Caluire, near Lyon, by the local head of the Gestapo, Klaus Barbie, was detained in the Montluc prison.

Prefect from 1937 to 1940, first president of the National Council of the Resistance (CNR), Jean Moulin was tortured in Montluc and at the local headquarters of the Gestapo for nearly three weeks before dying on July 8 at Metz station on the train who took him to Germany.

As the 80th anniversary of his death approaches, Emmanuel Macron will go to his cell and that of the “butcher of Lyon”, Klaus Barbie, who spent a night in Montluc after his arrest in 1983.

A tribute to the resistance fighters in Lyon

Emmanuel Macron is expected around 2:30 p.m. at the Memorial of the Montluc prison, in Lyon, for a tribute to the “French Resistance and to the victims of Nazi barbarism”, specifies the Elysée.

He will be accompanied by the Keeper of the Seals, Eric Dupond-Moretti, the Minister of National Education Pap Ndiaye and the Secretary of State for Veterans and Memory, Patricia Mirallès.

A first ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe

As with every celebration of May 8, the Head of State will go up the Champs-Elysées, accompanied by the great escort of the Republican Guard, on horseback and motorized.

He will then join the Arc de Triomphe at 11 a.m. for the laying of the wreath, the rekindling of the flame and the minute of silence in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier, in the presence of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.
