“Reports about the illegal seizure of power in Gabon are deeply worrying,” Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland said in a statement. She recalled that members of the Commonwealth, an organization made up mainly of former British colonies that the Central African country joined last year, must respect “the rule of law and the principles of democracy”.
