CHENNAI> Noted director GS Panicker passed away. He was being treated for cancer. He has produced and directed seven films himself. The first film was ‘Ekakini’ (1976). This movie has won many accolades including the State Award for Best Film. The film is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short story Karuta Chandran.

Other films include Pandavapuram, Sahyan’s Daughter, the docu-fiction film Vasarashaiya, the Kannada film Romanchana and Prakriti Manohari related to the Kallara Pangod Samara. He had been away from films for a long time and was preparing to do a film titled Midsummer Dreams in 2018.
