Director KS Sethumadhavan passes away Kerala | Deshabhimani

Chennai: Famous director KS Sethumadhavan (90) has passed away. The end was in Chennai. Apart from Malayalam, Sethumadhavan has directed films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. He received the 2009 JC Daniel Award for Outstanding Contribution to a Film.

Sethumadhavan was born in 1931, the son of Palakkad Subramaniam and Lakshmi. He spent his childhood in North Arcot and Palakkad in Tamil Nadu. He graduated in Botany from Victoria College, Palakkad. He came to cinema as an assistant to director K Ramnath.

He studied directing with directors LV Prasad, ASA Swamy, Sundar Rao and Nandakarni. Sethumadhavan became an independent director in 1960 with the Sinhala film Veeravijaya. He has won the state award for best director four times. Jnanasundari is the first Malayalam movie released in 1961. Sethumadhavan’s Odayil won the National Award for Best Malayalam Film for his films Adimakal, Karakanakkadal and Unfinished House.
