Dhe cinema director Roland Emmerich has announced the end of his career. In his next and last film, it should be about the fact that the world is falling apart because of environmental disasters, the 67-year-old told “Bild am Sonntag”. “Because I wonder if there will come a time when people will no longer be able to live in the country they were born in – because of heat, because of water shortages, because of hunger,” he said.

This will lead to a “migration of peoples” that will change a lot: “The system will no longer work if suddenly many millions of people travel to another country.” The film is important to him: “The only one In my opinion, the way to shake people up is when they are terribly afraid of something.” But it would still be two to three years before the film was shot. What comes after that, he doesn’t know yet.

Born in Stuttgart, Emmerich has been living in the USA for many years. Because of his disaster films like “Independence Day” or “The Patriot” he is sometimes referred to as the “Master of Disaster”. Last Monday he was the producer at the German premiere of the fantasy film “The Magic Flute – The Legacy of the Magic Flute” in Munich.
