The annual award of the Association of Czech Film Clubs will be accepted at the Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště by Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi and French director and screenwriter Arnaud Desplechin. Both will be guests of the show, which will take place from July 26 to August 1.

Earlier, the organizers said that theater actor Jiří Suchý and actor and director Jan Kačer will also receive annual awards in memoriam. This Monday, the organizers published the day’s program.

Czech viewers know Ildikó Enyedi, for example, thanks to the film About Body and Soul from 2017. “She is one of the most important female directors in the world today, an unmistakably strong voice of Hungarian cinema and winner of the Golden Bear from Berlin for her magnum opus About Body and Soul,” says the show’s program director Jan Rye grass.

Arnaud Desplechin is a sixty-three-year-old winner of the French César award for the film Three Memories from 2015. In recent years, he has filmed, for example, Klam with actress Léa Seydoux in the lead role based on the book by Philip Roth. The dramaturg of the Uhersko-Hradiště show describes him as a master of psychological tragicomedy, whose love for cinematography accompanies him throughout his life. “After all, the proof is his hot new film presented this year in Cannes with the apt title Spectators!, which Desplechin will bring,” mentions Jílek.

This year, the festival will screen films by the Italian director and screenwriter Federico Fellini or films with music by the Czech composer Zdenek Liška. The program section called Film Reader will focus on New Hollywood, which is the period of American cinema from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. The next section Terra festivalis will present a selection of works from Tunisia.

There will also be a section called Eastern Promises, which will once again offer news from Eastern Europe. “Among the 15 listed titles, there will be five renowned names headed by Agnieszka Holland, Radu Jude and Małgorzata Szumowska. In addition to the established giants, the section will present another ten promising directors from all corners of the former Eastern bloc, from Hungary to Bulgaria to Azerbaijan,” he states dramaturg Kamila Dolotin.

The accompanying program of the jubilee 50th year of the show will offer a concert by the band Tata Bojs and Slovak singer Jana Kirschner. Theater Na zábradlí will come with a performance of Freud’s Late Afternoon. The organizers are preparing a literary program, events for children or an exhibition prepared by the Czech Press Office, which will bring closer to 100 years of its photo reporting. Last year, 4,500 accredited visitors came to the Summer Film School. The organizers sold another 3140 tickets in packages. The festival screened 180 films.
