The announcement of the results of the second round of the election of the President of the Supreme Council of State witnessed verbal altercations and a dispute over a ballot paper to elect the President of the Council, and the broadcast of the Supreme Council of State session was cut off.
The point of contention is about one paper written on the back with the name Takala, and whether it will be counted or excluded. If it is excluded, the round will be in Al-Mishri’s favor by one vote, and if it is counted, the two candidates will have the same percentage of votes (69) for each of them, and a third round will be held.
According to the results of the second round, Khaled Al-Mishri won the elections for the presidency of the Supreme Council of State, after obtaining 69 votes in the second round, compared to 68 votes for his competitor, Muhammad Takala.
The first round of the council’s voting ended with Khaled Al-Mishri receiving 54 votes, Mohammed Takala receiving 67 votes, and Adel Karmos receiving 17 votes.
Elections for the presidency of the Supreme State Advisory Council are held every year, and three presidents have held the presidency of the council so far: Abdul Rahman Al-Suwaihli, Khaled Al-Mishri, and Muhammad Takala.
The results of the first round of voting ended with candidate Mohammed Takala receiving 67 votes, candidate Khaled Al-Mishri receiving 54 votes, and candidate Adel Karmos receiving 17 votes, with a blank ballot.
