Following the resignation of Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ranil Wickremesinghe assumed the post.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is taking various measures to tackle the economic crisis.
It has been reported that there is a clash between Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in this situation.
According to a press release issued by the Sri Lankan media: –
The current Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, has called on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to remove him and hand over the post to his friend Dinesh Weerakkody.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa strongly objected to this. Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced his resignation as Finance Minister and Prime Minister.
Gotabhaya was reportedly angry at Wickremesinghe’s response. The talks between the Chancellor and the Prime Minister were also arranged by Rajapaksa family relative Thirukumar Nadesan.
He said the talks were arranged at the request of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. He then appointed new ministers. Reports of a rift between Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe at a time when the country is already reeling from the economic crisis have come as a shock.
