(24 News) Disagreement between the governor and the chief minister came to light on the issue of appointments of vice chancellors of universities in Punjab.

Governor Punjab Salim Haider disagreed with the summary sent by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the appointment of Vice Chancellors and said that no name can be clearly suggested by the Chief Minister.

The Governor says that 3 names are sent alphabetically, the Chief Minister thinks that the number one names sent by him should be approved, he is not satisfied with the selection of Vice Chancellors.

Responding to the Governor’s statement, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that the cabinet approved the selection committee for the appointment of vice-chancellors. Uzma Bukhari said that the selection committee interviewed all the candidates who wanted to be appointed vice-chancellor in universities and recommended the names of qualified, senior and experienced people as vice-chancellors.

The provincial information minister further said that the Governor’s job is to seal the actions and decisions of the Punjab Assembly and the Cabinet. Instead of paying, let the governorship be limited to a constitutional position.
