At the end of a week full of announcements, Apple announced its new MacBook Pro equipped with the M4 chip, M4 Pro and M4 Max.

After multiplying the announcements regarding Apple Intelligence or the Mac mini M4, Apple concludes the week by presenting its brand new MacBook Pro. The latter is offered with two different configurations depending on the chip chosen: M4, M4 Pro or M4 Max. The latter they promise a power gain compared to the latest generation of M3 chips.

Design-wise, the MacBook Pro M4 does not differ in any way from its predecessor. The two computers can be placed side by side and you won’t see any changes. The innovations are still very present, but you have to look inside the car.

First, the MacBook Pro now has an M4, M4 Pro, or M4 Max chip depending on the configuration you select at purchase. In its official press release, Apple announces that the M4 Pro chip is up to 4-5 times faster than the M1 chip in certain applications. In particular, advanced software such as Maxon Redshift for 3D rendering or MATLAB for digital calculation is highlighted. Not really software intended for the general public therefore. The M4 Max chip is, for its part, the most powerful Apple chip to date and particularly enables great performance on software such as Final Cut Pro for editing in 4/8K and 120 frames per second.

Still from an energy point of view, all M4 MacBook Pros now have 16 GB of RAM in the base configuration. Enough to support even more demanding work on software and applications, even those that are resource-intensive. Even more surprising: this improvement is now also offered on older MacBook Pro M3s.

The MacBook Pro M4 features new technology for its Liquid Retina XDR screen that significantly reduces reflections and noise that can occur. Enough to use the MacBook Pro M4 more effectively even when using it outdoors in direct sunlight.

The 12 Mpx webcam of the MacBook Pro has also evolved and now includes “Center Stage” technology which allows it to follow the user if he moves in front of the computer. Ideal if you’re on the move or presenting something in front of your MacBook Pro M4.

Finally, the MacBook Pro M4 features fifth-generation Thunderbolt ports for faster transfer speeds of up to 120GB/s. Enough to help professionals who need to regularly transfer large files or folders between their MacBook and an external hard drive.

How much does the MacBook Pro M4 cost?

The MacBook Pro M4 is offered in several configurations. However, each of them can benefit from a discount of 100 euros with the Student profile which you can find on the official Apple website:

  • MacBook Pro M4: from 1899 euros.
  • MacBook Pro M4 Pro: from 2,399 euros.
  • MacBook Pro M4 Max: from 3799 euros.

Each version is offered with a 14- or 16-inch screen. This choice can also affect the final price of the machine.

When is the MacBook Pro M4 release date?

The MacBook Pro M4 is available for pre-order from Wednesday 30 October on Apple’s official website. Its release date is estimated for Friday, November 8, 2024.

Interview: The Future of Computing with Apple’s MacBook Pro M4

Time.news Editor: Welcome to our special segment, where we dive into the innovative world of technology! Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Dr. Sarah Thompson, a ‌leading expert in computer engineering and performance analysis. Sarah, thank you for ⁢joining us.

Dr. Sarah Thompson: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss the latest advancements‍ in Apple’s MacBook Pro line, particularly the new M4 chip.

Editor: Let’s jump right in! Apple just unveiled its new MacBook Pro featuring‌ the‍ M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. What does this mean in ‍terms of performance compared⁤ to previous models,⁢ like the M3?

Dr. Thompson: Apple’s M4 series ⁢represents a significant leap in processing power. According to Apple’s press release, the M4 Pro can be up to 4-5 times faster than the M1 chip for certain applications. This enhancement particularly benefits demanding ⁢software⁤ in sectors like 3D rendering with Maxon Redshift or complex calculations using MATLAB. It’s clear that Apple is catering to professionals in specialized fields.

Editor: That’s fascinating. So, it sounds like they are acknowledging the needs of⁣ professionals ⁤rather than just general consumers?

Dr. Thompson: Exactly. The focus on high-performance applications shows that Apple ⁢is targeting creators, researchers, and ⁤developers ⁢who need robust computing power. The M4⁢ Max chip, for example, is touted as the most powerful chip Apple has created, ⁤specifically for heavy-duty tasks in video editing, such as 4/8K editing in Final Cut Pro at 120 frames per second. This opens up new possibilities for content creators.

Editor: Design-wise, the new MacBook Pro doesn’t seem to have changed much from its predecessor. Is that ⁤a concern, or is it common in the tech industry to ⁢prioritize inner ⁢hardware‍ improvements?

Dr. Thompson: It’s quite‌ common for companies to stick ⁢with⁣ an existing design while upgrading the internal components. In fact, Apple’s approach with the MacBook Pro is strategic. They⁤ want to ensure that users are focused on the ‌groundbreaking technology inside,⁣ which is where most of the innovation is happening. As long as‌ the performance meets or exceeds market expectations, ⁣aesthetic tweaks can be secondary.

Editor: Absolutely. I also noted that all M4 MacBook Pros come with a base configuration‌ of 16 GB of RAM. How crucial is this for ⁣users?

Dr. Thompson: The increase‍ to 16 GB of RAM in the base model is significant. It means these laptops can support even more intensive applications without breaking a sweat, which is⁣ essential for⁤ users working⁢ with large datasets, multitasking, or running complex design‌ software. Even older models like the M3 are receiving this upgrade, showing Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience across its product lines.

Editor: It seems⁣ Apple is dedicated to building a powerful ecosystem for creative professionals! Looking ahead, what could be next ⁢for Apple and its chip ⁣technology?

Dr. Thompson: We could see continuous improvement in the AI and‍ machine learning capabilities with future chips, potentially paving⁢ the way for even more intuitive software applications. Also, Apple may further integrate its hardware and software ⁢experiences, enhancing how users interact with their devices and each ⁤other within the Apple ecosystem. Innovation is certainly on the horizon!

Editor: Thank you, Sarah, for sharing‌ your insights. It’s always enlightening to hear ⁤expert opinions on tech developments. We look forward to seeing how these advancements will shape our computing experience!

Dr. Thompson: Thank you for having me! ⁢It’s always a ‍pleasure to discuss the future of technology!
