/ The Governor of Najaf, Majid Al-Waeli, announced on Tuesday the discovery of an oil well in the monks’ oasis area in the Bahr Al-Najaf depression.
He said in a statement received by Agency, that the discovery came through the exploratory area in which the survey was conducted by the Oil Exploration Company and a group of foreign experts, considering that this makes Najaf one of the governorates with high oil reserves.
The statement quoted Al-Waeli, during his deliberations with his advisor for administrative units and energy affairs, as saying that there are indications that appeared in that area, including vapors and volatile gases, an increase in soil temperature, and the burning of orchards and green areas, indicating the presence of an oil well in that area.
Al-Waeli instructed the formation of a committee headed by Abdul Hussein Al-Shibli, Advisor for Administrative Units and Energy Affairs, to follow up and continue communication with the Ministry of Oil and the Oil Exploration Company for the purpose of providing logistical support to the oil exploration team and the relevant ministerial teams and accelerating the completion of the required procedures related to the oil field.
Al-Waeli explained that there will be direct communication with the Ministry of Oil to speed up the preparation processes leading to oil production, stressing that this discovery will be a comprehensive development and economic revolution and will raise the standard of living and economics for the Najafi citizen.
