Discussion of improving the electricity network in Benghazi and its suburbs

The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the government assigned by the House of Representatives, Dr. Awad Al-Badri, chaired “an important meeting with the Ministry’s Emergency Committee for the Stability of the Electricity Network, to discuss the current conditions of the electricity network in the city of Benghazi and its suburbs.”

During the meeting, “the problems and difficulties facing the electricity network within the city were highlighted, in addition to reviewing the possible mechanisms to solve these challenges effectively.”

The meeting touched on “a number of urgent projects that the Ministry supports and directly supervises, most notably: the Si Faraj station (400 kV), the new Al-Kuwaifiya Central station (30-11 kV), the Al-Salam Al-Hakan district station (220-30 kV), the new university station (30/11 kV), and a portable station with a capacity of (500 KVA) in the Talmitha area, in addition to other projects that will contribute significantly to enhancing the stability of the electrical grid and ensuring the flow of electricity without frequent interruptions.”

According to the ministry, “the completion rate of these projects has reached very advanced levels, and Al-Badri stressed, “the need to ship all these projects before the end of this week so that they can start entering the network and benefit from them, which will lead to a tangible improvement in the performance of the electrical network inside Benghazi and its suburbs.”

Al-Badri stressed, “The need to expedite the completion of these projects before this week to reduce the suffering of citizens and reduce the pressure resulting from power outages.”

It is noteworthy that “these strategic projects enjoy the full support of the Libyan government, and come within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to keep pace with the rapid urban development witnessed by the country and support the General Electricity Company, in line with the Ministry’s commitment to achieving electrical stability throughout Libya.”

The Ministry of Electricity in the government-designate announced “the success of emergency maintenance teams in re-operating the power line (11/17 kV) in the Tahala area, after it was put out of service due to the rainstorm that recently hit the area.”
