COMMUNICATION IRDH/2023/10/048

Lubumbashi, October 2, 2023. The Human Rights Research Institute (IRDH) is delighted to see no restrictions on candidates who consider themselves to be bearers of the people’s hope. Everyone can seek direct universal suffrage for the supreme office and MAY THE BEST WIN. This is an opportunity to recall the duty of all stakeholders in the electoral process to facilitate strong citizen participation. This critical phase paves the way for the final sprint.

Indeed, it is the responsibility of the leaders of public institutions, particularly the President of the Republic, to improve the socio-political conditions for holding a peaceful and inclusive election. A symbolic relaxation would be strongly felt if we proceeded to release prisoners detained for their opinions or their political affiliations.

It is up to civil society organizations, particularly those specializing in data processing and their massive media dissemination, to fight against the spread of disinformation, intoxication and insults. This civic obligation extends to increased surveillance of leaders, so that they do not abuse public power (Police and Justice), finances, property or state personnel. To international partners (public and private), owners or financiers of international radio and television stations; IRDH recommends refraining from Congo bashing campaigns. The selective amplification of events and the contemptuous treatment of “facts coming from Africa” are detrimental to the advancement of these people who express their desire to hold peaceful and inclusive elections.
