Dismissal of Periyar University Registrar K. Thangavela Ordered by Tamil Nadu Government due to Corruption Findings

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the dismissal of the Registrar K. Thangavela based on the report given by the inquiry committee regarding the corruption in Periyar University.

Higher Education Secretary Karti has sent a letter in this regard to the Vice Chancellor of the University.

In December 2022, the Government of Tamil Nadu appointed an inquiry committee consisting of Additional Secretary Palaniswami and Joint Secretary Henry Das Ilango to investigate the irregularities in Periyar University.

This investigation team conducted a ten-phase investigation in Periyar University and verified the documents of the last 3 years and conducted intensive investigation with all the university teachers, workers and private organizations. The report of this inquiry committee was submitted to the Tamil Nadu government on the 5th.

In this, it has been stated that the various charges leveled against Thangavel have been confirmed, and in particular, it has been said that there has been an irregularity in the appointment of Thangavel, who was a professor in the Department of Mathematics, to the Department of Computer Science in Periyar University.

Based on the report of the inquiry committee, Principal Secretary Karthik has sent a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the University asking that Registrar Thangavela should be immediately dismissed.

It is noteworthy that as Patiwal Thangavel is about to retire soon, an order has been issued to remove him from his post.
