Netflix and Prime Video aren’t the only streaming services changing their password sharing policies. Disney+ Hotstar has recently implemented new rules that will significantly impact password sharing practices.
This change may come as a shock to many users who have become accustomed to borrowing friends’ passwords to access their favorite shows and movies. However, this practice will now be penalized.
Sharing with Family
Sharing passwords with immediate family members is still permitted under the new policy. Disney+ Hotstar understands the importance of family entertainment and allows password sharing within households.
General Password Sharing Banned
Sharing passwords with anyone outside of your immediate family is now prohibited. This drastic change aims to combat account sharing and encourage users to subscribe individually.
Company Response and User Options
Disney+ Hotstar’s CEO has expressed confidence that this measure will lead to increased user engagement. While some users may be hesitant to pay for individual accounts, the company encourages them to do so for a seamless and personalized streaming experience.
Friends still have the option to share accounts, but this will require separate subscriptions. Alternatively, users can choose to subscribe individually and enjoy the service independently.
