Disney Imagination Named First Disney Cruise Ship for Japan

Oriental Land Co. has named its upcoming 140,000-ton cruise vessel Disney Imagination, scheduled to begin short passenger sailings from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal in the spring of 2029 under the newly established Disney Cruise Line Japan brand.

Construction and related costs for the vessel are projected at 330 billion yen. The Oriental Land Group and ORIENTAL LAND CRUISE Co., Ltd. announced the vessel name in an official release, noting that the project expands the company’s stage from Maihama onto the high seas. The ship will be operated under the official name Disney Cruise Line Japan, marking the first time that magical cruise vacations will come to families in Japan.

Tokyo Voyages Target Short Itineraries

The Wish-class ship will measure approximately 340 meters in length and weigh roughly 140,000 tons. Operating primarily from the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, the ship will feature 1,250 guest rooms with a maximum capacity of around 4,000 passengers. The operator plans to focus on two-to-four-night tours departing from and returning to ports around Tokyo.

Standard fares will range from 100,000 yen to less than 400,000 yen per person. Reservations open approximately six months prior to the scheduled spring 2029 launch.

Stern Features Ariel and Broadway Shows

In keeping with Disney Cruise Line tradition, the ship’s stern will display a prominent animated character. Ariel from The Little Mermaid will be depicted alongside Sebastian, the court composer crab, and friends from the sea using a dinglehopper to paint the vessel’s name in a playful tribute to her curiosity and adventurous spirit.

Interior spaces will include a theater with more than 1,300 seats for Broadway-style productions and spectacular stage shows, outdoor deck stages featuring Disney characters, programs offered across various locations inside the ship, and character greetings in exclusive cruise attire. Guests can also enjoy approximately 30 unique food and beverage venues comprising three main themed restaurants with unique menus, cafes, and bars, alongside shops offering exclusive merchandise. The ship will further provide dedicated areas offering engaging programs for children, tweens, and teens, as well as exclusive adult-only areas for a serene and relaxing time.
