Sad news from the Disney world: Coco Lee (48), who gave her voice to the famous Disney character Mulan, has died. The singer’s sisters revealed that Lee attempted suicide on Sunday, after which she was rushed to the hospital where she fell into a coma. Despite all rescue attempts, Lee died on Wednesday.

Her sisters released in their statement, “Although Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, ultimately the demons within her took over.”
The Lees family recalls how Lee “has worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers on the international music scene and she has done everything to shine for the Chinese.”

Lee has had an impressive career: the singer not only rose to prominence as Mulan’s voice, but also sang the Oscar-nominated song “A Love Before Time” in the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She was the first Chinese woman in America to make it big as a singer, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot Dance Breakout chart in 1999 with her song “Do You Want My Love”. She also won the Chinese TV talent show “I am a Singer” in 2016.

But despite her remarkable career, the talented singer has not been doing well for some time. At the turn of the year, she posted a post on Instagram with some photos that documented her “difficult” last year. At the time, Lee seemed hopeful again, wanting to “share her life story” in 2023. But since this post on New Year’s Eve, the Disney star has not posted a post on Instagram.
