The acting mayor of Kufra, Masoud Abdullah, said that the city receives about 1,500 Sudanese refugees daily, noting that the number of displaced Sudanese families has reached about ten thousand families.

Masoud Abdullah confirmed in an intervention with Al-Ahrar that the health situation in the city is witnessing an increasing deterioration, as many diseases have begun to appear among the displaced as a result of the difficult environmental and humanitarian conditions.

He added that the municipality is in dire need of support, especially in the health sector, but the response from international and local bodies has been very weak, according to him.

For his part, the director of Kufra Teaching Hospital, Ismail Al-Ayda, said that only a small amount of the aid pledged by international organizations to deal with the Sudanese refugee crisis in the city has arrived, amid an increase in their numbers over the past month.

Al-Aida added in an intervention with Al-Ahrar that the city is not qualified to receive the huge number of refugees whose percentage exceeds the number of the city’s population; confirming that they have examined about fifty thousand refugees, some of whom are suffering from serious diseases including AIDS, hepatitis and tuberculosis.

The Director of Kufra Hospital pointed out that the security room is currently seeking to facilitate the transfer of displaced persons to the northern cities, with the aim of reducing their numbers in the city, after counting them and conducting free medical tests on them.
