BOLZANO. After eight years he has finally returned to sporting freedom.lex Schwazer. His competitive career was interrupted on the eve of the Rio 2016 Games due to a positive doping test. However, after a long and tough legal battle, the Olympic walker, gold medalist at Beijing 2008, can now finally see the light again.

On social media, the athlete wrote a long post where he reads: “I hope that no athlete will ever be subjected to the treatment I suffered. I thank all those (few) who have been close to me in this painful (and hellish) journey, those who have never abandoned me, when it would have been easy to do so, those who have fought with me and suffered with me for the injustice I had to endure and for the treatment I was subjected to”.

After the suffering he described, the runner will put his racing shoes back on on Friday 19 July at the stadium in via Pomerio in Arco, Trentino, for a 20 kilometre track race called “QAlex 20k”.

The news was announced by Queen Atletica, the organizer of the event. “The event called QAlex 20k, will be a real party with which Alex will say goodbye to the world of athletics in front of his family and all the friends who want to attend. In fact, entry will be free and you are all invited to the event, of which we will provide the time (approximately 7 pm) and further details in the coming days”, we read on the Queen Atletica website.
