Dissidents ask for humanitarian aid to treat wounded ELN guerrillas

The combats between the dissidents of the Farc and the National Liberation Army do not stop in Arauca. In the last few hours, the dissident group requested humanitarian aid because it has in its possession eleven Eleno guerrillas who were injured after the clashes.

“In combats with the ELN compañeros we have an emergency due to some injuries and for this reason we ask the International Red Cross and a government commission that, if possible, provide us with the service to help them because we are not in a position to care for them. because they are serious injuries,” said the leader of the dissidents of the 28th Front in Arauca, alias Antonio Medina.

The clashes occurred in the Siberia village of the Tame municipality. The dissidents’ commander assured that the confrontation occurred on Sunday, September 3.

In the broadcast video, five people who would belong to the ELN guerrilla can be seen. Three of them appear to be unconscious with injuries to the thorax and face.

“We urge the UN and the Red Cross to be present, we indicate the place, to deliver these wounded,” said Medina.

The dissident commander added that other Eleno prisoners are in his power and that in the next few hours they will define the mechanism to release them and deliver them to their families.

“I want to say to the ELN, through a greeting, that this is unnecessary. This war is absurd,” Medina concluded.

It is that the confrontation between these illegal groups does not only leave consequences between combatants. The Ombudsman denounced that the fighting in Arauca has led to the confinement of at least 818 people in Arauca.

This Saturday the dissidents of the Central General Staff of the Farc – commanded by Iván Mordisco – signed an agreement that will allow them to formally set up the negotiating table with the national government. The parties are expected to agree on a bilateral ceasefire in the coming days.
