Following the operation carried out in Cisneros, Antioquia, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, reported on the capture of several guerrillas who were traveling in a caravan of the National Protection Unit (UNP).

Among those arrested is alias ‘Firu’, the main leader of the 36th Front of the FARC dissidents, along with five other people.

During the operation, authorities seized two 9mm pistols, 11 cartridges and approximately 100 million pesos in cash.These items will be investigated by the Attorney General’s Office to determine their origin and possible links to illegal activities.

The group of insurgents, who were transferred to a military unit, were travelling in UNP vehicles. Among those captured were alias ‘Érika’, who had a supplier and other items in her possession, and María Alejandra Ojeda, who was carrying a pistol illegally. Also arrested were alias ‘Ramiro’, despite having a suspended arrest warrant, alias ‘Urías Perdomo’, leader of the Rodrigo Cadete front, and alias ‘Oliver González’, from the Raúl Reyes Commission.

The minister said that the detainees will be transferred to Medellin, where the Prosecutor’s Office will determine the corresponding legal procedures for their deprivation of liberty, as decided by the judges of guarantees.

“The arrested persons will be transferred to the city of Medellin, where the Prosecutor’s Office will determine the legal procedures that are appropriate regarding their deprivation of liberty, whether or not they are requested by the judges of guarantees,” said Velásquez.
