Awami League’s Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap has been arrested and sweets have been distributed in Kalkini Upazila of his constituency Madaripur. On Monday (August 26) morning, sweets were distributed in various areas including North Ramazanpur of the upazila.
Police arrested Golap from Nakhalpara area of the capital on Sunday (August 25). In addition to the distribution of sweets, the people of the area demanded exemplary punishment of roses.
Golap went to America to earn a living and drove a taxi. He sometimes delivered pizzas for extra income. His life changed in the presence of Sheikh Hasina. Despite not being involved in politics in the area, he became a central large-scale leader of Awami League. He was Sheikh Hasina’s special assistant.
Golap is accused of acquiring wealth worth hundreds of crores of rupees.
In the 2018 election, Golap MP was elected on Madaripur-3 constituency boat ticket. Since then there have been allegations of widespread corruption against him.
Masud Parvez, General Secretary of Madaripur District Volunteers Party, said that after gaining power, Golab has committed various crimes including grabbing land, acquiring illegal wealth, oppressing people. Due to which the locals distributed sweets after he was arrested.
He thinks that the rulers should learn from it.
