Tirupur: The district sports competition for the differently-abled was held yesterday at the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority indoor sports hall in Chikkanna College, Tirupur. From all over the district, 418 people participated enthusiastically.

District Sports Officer Rajagopal presided. District Disabled Welfare Officer Murugesan, 28th Ward Councilor Shekhar inaugurated the competitions. Coordinated by District Athletic Trainer Divyanageswari.

Winners

Student, 50 m., Race 1st – Periyasamy, 2nd – Vignesh. Women’s category, 50m, first runner-up – Harini. 2nd Runner Up – Charuhasini. Visually Impaired, 100m, Run, 1st – Bharat, 2nd – Raminatharan. First in the female category – Amitrahila, second – Pragati.

In the mentally retarded, student category, Srihari stood first and Kargodan stood second. In the female category, Tamilselvi stood first and Kokila stood second. In the Hearing Impaired category, in the female category, Jayashree got the first prize, Karthika got the second prize.

Tirupur Annal Special School came first in both boys and girls categories in the volleyball competition. Udumalai Mother Teresa School stood second in the student category.

Earlier, SP Sashang Sai, who inaugurated the competitions, said, “Your participation in the competitions is equal to success; My best wishes for your endeavours. You are born to achieve,” he clapped his hands and encouraged the differently abled.
