Diya Krishna Explains Why She Calls Mother-in-Law Aunty

Social media influencer Diya Krishna addressed her mother-in-law as ‘Aunty’ rather than ‘mom’ in a new vlog, noting that her wedding to Ashwin followed pressure from a more conservative family and required no elaborate planning.

Content creator Diya Krishna, daughter of BJP leader Krishnakumar, has turned heads across digital platforms with a candid video addressing her lifestyle, marriage, and family boundaries. The vlog touches on everything from domestic boundaries to why she dropped the nickname Meenamma for her husband’s mother, a topic that quickly drew heavy commentary from followers.

Maintaining Generational Distance at Home

She noted that her mother-in-law is more than ten years older than her own mother, giving her roughly the age of a grandparent. She could not just go and call her by name. She considers only her own mother, Sindhu Krishna, as amma, while Ashwin addresses her mother as Sindhu. Regarding household boundaries, Diya emphasized that clear limits must be maintained from the beginning so that no one oversteps.

Ashwin Uses First Names to Make Sindhu Feel Youthful

Diya noted that her mother-in-law is more than a decade older than her own mother, Sindhu Krishna, putting her closer to grandparent age. Meanwhile, Ashwin refers to Sindhu by her first name. This casual dynamic makes her mother feel youthful and relaxed. When it comes to managing extended family, the influencer argues that setting early limits prevents future friction.

Pressing for an Immediate Traditional Wedding

The vlog also looks back at how quickly the couple’s relationship transitioned into marriage. Diya and her family would have had no problem dating and walking together for another five or six years. Ashwin’s family is somewhat more conservative. They pressed for an immediate wedding once they learned of the relationship. Diya admits she was initially afraid her parents would not approve if she told them. They simply told her she could marry if she wanted.

Planning Without Extended Preparation

Diya noted that she simply did not have the patience to plan things out in that manner.
