DJ-Optical Launches Ultra Slim 35mm f/3.5 Lens for Leica M-Mount

DJ-Optical has introduced an ultra-slim manual-focus pancake lens designed for Leica M-mount cameras. Measuring just 15 millimeters long and weighing 140 grams, the body-cap-style accessory is available for purchase now through online retailers.

DJ-Optical Releases M-Mount Pancake Lens

Shown off earlier in the year at the 2026 China P&E Imaging Show, the new DJ-Optical Ultra Slim 35mm f/3.5 Pancake Lens features a manual focus prime setup built specifically for Leica M mount. The optic spans a mere 15 millimeters (0.59 inches) in length, excluding the mount itself.

Online retailer Shotenkobo characterizes the hardware as a body-cap-style lens, a design philosophy where users attach a slim optic to protect the image sensor instead of using a standard body cap.

Similar optics have appeared across the industry over the years. The TTArtisan AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini was built for full-frame E-mount cameras.

Weighing just 140 grams (4.9 ounces), the metal-crafted lens houses eight elements arranged across five groups. The internal layout includes one ED element alongside a trio of high-refractive index elements. Its aperture operates from f/3.5 to f/16, driven by eight aperture blades. While the lens is rangefinder-coupled and focuses down to 0.7 meters, shooters can achieve closer focusing down to 0.5 meters when using live view. Photographers can also adapt the lens to non-M camera bodies, although utilizing an adapter adds extra length to the ultra-thin pancake build.

Independent Optics Enter Accessory Space

Independent optical manufacturers continue rolling out specialized gear for mirrorless systems, and this release reflects a broader trend of designer-leaning products entering the accessory space. The manual-focus-only build appeals directly to experienced photographers comfortable with zone focusing or relying on focus peaking aids on modern camera bodies. Because the barrel lacks electronic contacts, full operational compatibility relies entirely on mechanical coupling and manual aperture control.

Combining classic metal craftsmanship, multi-coated optics, and rangefinder-coupled manual focusing, it is an ideal everyday companion for street photography, travel, and casual shooting.

Accessory Costs About $520

The accessory is priced at about $520.

DJ-Optical brings roughly 30 years of optical experience to the release. The company’s most recent lens is the NyctaLux 50mm f/1 for M mount, which sells on eBay for about $700.
