At the beginning of the second set of his unexpected match with Novak Djokovic in the first round of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Matthew Ebden offered to have a spectator play for him. The score was 6-0 and 2-0 in favor of Djokovic at that time. Doubles specialist Ebden, who had only slipped into the singles draw as a wild card, was granted a small success by the top-seeded Serb, but ultimately won “only” with 6-0 and 6-1.
In the second round, a classic matchup against Rafael Nadal could happen, provided the Spaniard is fit and wins his opening match against Marton Fucsovics.
Carlos Alcaraz took a slightly calmer approach against Hady Habib. The reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion won convincingly with 6-3 and 6-1.
These two matches were also the only ones on the men’s side that could be played on Saturday until mid-afternoon. Rain has still firmly gripped Paris.
