Coimbatore: “DMK should stop spreading slander that there is succession politics in BJP,” said BJP National Women’s Congress President Vanathi Srinivasan MLA.

In the statement he issued in this regard, “Udayanidhi Stalin, the grandson of Karunanidhi, who was DMK leader for half a century, and the son of DMK leader and chief minister M.K. Stalin, has become the minister. Tamil Nadu has been under the control of one political party and one family for 54 consecutive years. If you point to succession politics, “Isn’t there succession politics in BJP?” They ask the counter question. On the surface, this question seems to be justified. But, there is no justice in that.

If a father or mother in the family is in politics, it does not mean that their successors should not enter politics. Our India is a democratic country. Anyone who has completed 18 years of age and is eligible to vote can enter politics. Can contest elections. But succession politics means that the leadership of a party is confined to one family. Succession politics is where only members of the same family by birth become party leaders. The Congress is led by members of the Nehru family, even if someone else is the party leader.

When Karunanidhi, who was DMK leader for 49 years, passed away, Stalin became the leader. This is succession politics. If the leadership responsibility of making decisions and leading the party continues to remain with only one family, others will not get the opportunities they deserve. He became Udhayanidhi Minister within a year and a half of becoming an MLA despite the presence of many talented people. In BJP, no family member comes to the leadership position. Not only national leadership, but any state leadership has no heirs.

DMK should stop spreading slander that there is succession politics in all parties and BJP in order to divert the criticism of succession politics against them. The chief minister who made his son a minister may have made a member of the list as deputy chief minister or given important portfolios like home, finance, public works, industry, revenue to at least one member of the list. At least one person from the scheduled caste should be made Deputy Chief Minister. Important sectors should be reserved for oppressed communities,” said Vanadi.
