Total Councilors of the Municipality 52. DMK. 24, BJP, 11, Cong., 7, ADMK, 7, MDMK, 1, Sue., 2.DMK. Attorney Mahesh was announced as the mayoral candidate. The AIADMK backed the BJP, which has 11 councilors, in the mayoral election. Meenadev, a two-time mayor of Nagercoil municipality, has been declared the BJP’s mayoral candidate.
Thus, the DMK councilors were staying in resorts all over Kerala. In yesterday’s election, all the councilors voted. Mahesh won by 28 votes. BJP, the candidate got 24 votes. BJP, – AIADMK, Number of Councilors 18. Meenadev gets six more votes. The debate over who these votes belong to has begun.
DMK has taken over as the first mayor of Nagercoil after being upgraded as a corporation. Mary Princy Latha of the DMK won as deputy mayor.
Municipalities:
Johnson Charles, who was declared the DMK candidate in Kulachal, was fielded by the DMK candidate Nasir, who contested against him.
In the constituency, DMK councilor Asaithambi contested against Merlin Sheeba, who was declared the candidate. Asaithambi 10, Merlin Sheeba 9, Cong., Candidate Prabhin Raja got 2 votes. The re-election took place as no one got the required 11 votes for a majority. DMK candidate Asaithambi won by 12 votes.
DMK in Padmanabhapuram Candidate Arul Sopan won. Kollangodu municipality has been allotted to the DMK in alliance with the Maoists. Lalita contested on behalf of the party. Rani contested against him on behalf of DMK, in which Rani won by 18 votes. Lalita got 10, BJP, candidate Sudha got 5 votes.
Leaders who refused to submit to leadership
Of the four municipalities in the district, only Padmanabhapuram was won by the DMK-led candidate. In Kulachal, Kuzhithurai, Kollangode DMK, disgruntled candidates won.
