DNCC has held a coordination meeting with the relevant organizations to identify the problem of waterlogging in Dhaka North City Corporation area, search for the cause, determine the remedy and solve the problem.

The meeting was held online on Tuesday (July 16).

Representatives of Dhaka Elevated Expressway Project, Bangladesh Railways, Directorate of Roads and Public Ways, Directorate of Public Works, Capital Development Authority, Civil Aviation Authority and Dhaka Ashulia Expressway Project participated in the meeting under the chairmanship of DNCC Chief Executive Officer Mir Khairul Alam.

DNCC Supervising Engineer Farooq Hassan Md. Al Masood gave a presentation.

After reviewing the presentation, Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Mir Khairul Alam said that the construction work of elevated expressway new pipeline should be completed quickly to alleviate waterlogging in the area around the Prime Minister’s office, Nakhalpara, Mohakhali DOHS area.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of DNCC coordinated with DNCC to reconstruct about 511 meters of damaged brick sewer line from Airport Road, Nakhalpara level crossing towards Tezgaon railway station with maximum diameter pipe and Pagla Pool and culvert adjacent to Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) Jame Masjid to be newly designed as a single vent. He urged the Bangladesh Railway to implement it at the field level.

Besides, he urged the railway authorities to implement the project by conserving the reservoir adjacent to the airport railway station.

Mir Khairul Alam said that during the construction of the BRT project, the waterlogging increased due to the construction of insufficient side drains on the Airport Road and the existing network not being completed.

He also said that the Civil Aviation Authority is constructing walkways on both sides of the Civil Aviation Canal on the north side of Kawla Cross Carlvert. As a result, the width of the canal has decreased a lot compared to earlier. Besides, piles of soil are accumulating along the walkways and the canals are filling up. Urging the Civil Aviation Authority to take measures to maintain the width of the canal.

He urged all concerned organizations to work in coordination with DNCC for a sustainable solution to waterlogging.
