Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said, to combat dengue, we have taken the initiative to buy abandoned polythene, packets of chips, ice cream cups, tin shells, unused tires, commodes and other abandoned items from the people in the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes scattered across the city. Anyone can collect the cash by visiting the councilor’s office in each ward and depositing the mentioned items. The waste products of each ward are collected daily regularly by cleaners and dumped at the nearest STS (Secondary Transfer Station). This initiative aims to clean every ward by involving the people.

This decision was announced by the mayor of DNCC at the 26th corporation meeting of the second parishad in the hall room of Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhavan in the capital on Thursday (April 4).

It should be noted that the councilors agreed to set the price for the abandoned goods and their collection. Packets of chips/homogeneous packets (100 pcs) Tk 100, ice cream cups, disposable glasses/cups (100 pcs) Tk 100, unused polythene (per kg) Tk 50, tin shells (each) Tk 2, earthen/plastic/melamine/ceramic etc containers (each) 3 taka, abandoned tires (each) 50 taka, abandoned commode/basin etc. (each) 100 taka, other abandoned plastic products (per kg) decided to buy at 10 taka. It will be implemented from the Councilor‘s office after Eid.

The mayor said that after Eid, a campaign will be started to make the people aware of dengue control under the leadership of the councilors in each ward. For this reason, there should be a discussion meeting with local dignitaries, politicians, imams, teachers and students about what to do to control dengue, and an awareness rally should be held. It is important for the city corporation to apply drugs, conduct clean activities as well as public awareness The message should be spread among the people – so that the larvae of Aedes cannot grow, they should keep their houses and offices clean. Water should not be allowed to accumulate on roofs, balconies, abandoned tires, tin shells, clay pots, food packets, unused commodes.

In the meeting, it was decided to make festival allowance of 5000 taka instead of 3000 taka on the occasion of holy Eid/Durga Puja/Bardin/Buddhist Purnima for all daily wage based (master roll) workers employed in Dhaka North City Corporation.

Recently retired DNCC Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muh. Farewell reception to Amirul Islam and newly joined Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Chief Waste Management Officer Captain Mohammad Fida Hasan and Regional Executive Officer Mohammad Saiful Islam were welcomed.

DNCC Secretary Mohammad Masud Alam Chiddiq was also present at the meeting – Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Mir Khairul Alam, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Captain Mohammad Fida Hasan, all Heads of Departments and Councilors of DNCC and other senior officials.
