Dhaka North City Corporation has announced that the exhibition of roof agriculture will be done by DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam

He announced this in a meeting on Tuesday (July 2) at DNCC’s Nagar Bhawan in Gulshan, in the area under the North City Corporation’s jurisdiction, to determine the qualification and selection process of rebateable roof gardeners, tree planters, and to formulate policies to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.

DNCC Mayor said, Dhaka does not have enough space for gardens or agriculture. Therefore rooftops can be a great field for agriculture. If there is a garden or agriculture on a roof, it is good to climb that roof. Through this fresh fruits and vegetables are available. It also helps in reducing the temperature of the building. Roofs also play a role in protecting the agricultural environment and preserving biodiversity. Many people are doing roof farming in Dhaka. To encourage more we will organize exhibition on rooftop farming.

He directed the concerned department to take measures to organize the exhibition in the month of November.

The mayor also said, I announced a 10% tax discount for roof gardens. Following our proposal, the ministry has approved tax exemption on planned roof gardens for all city corporations. Formulating policies with experts. City dwellers will get exemption from holding tax if policies are formulated regarding eligibility and selection process of rebateable roof gardeners, tree planters.

Shaikh Siraj, founder director and chief message officer of Channel I, was present in the meeting. He said that the importance of vegetables and fruits grown on the roof is very important to people. It is a matter of great joy for people. Apart from eating vegetables produced by rooftop farming, many people are also benefiting financially. If the city corporation gives tax rebate on rooftop farming, it will be an honor for the city dwellers. Exhibition on roof farming is a great initiative. I would urge the City Corporation to take the initiative to conduct area-wise exhibitions on rooftop agriculture.
