The popular messaging application, WhatsApp, recently launched two new features designed to organize the various groups: surveys and communities. The application, which belongs to the company Meta (formerly Facebook), currently allows Israeli consumers the option of posting surveys in various conversations in the application. The feature is available both in groups and in individual conversations.

Each survey can contain up to 12 possible answers. Different users can mark several answers in the survey and it is not possible to define giving only one answer. The feature will gradually be available to all users. Anyone with access to the feature can create polls, but all users can respond if another user has posted in the group.
For Android users, the feature is in the media sending area, from where you send documents, photos, recordings, location, and more, and for Apple users, the feature is in the tab that opens after clicking on the plus at the bottom of the screen. The significant improvement in the new feature is the potential to save many unnecessary responses to reach a decision in large groups.
Another feature announced by WhatsApp is the possibility to make video calls to up to 32 participants in the group.
Communities: the feature designed to bring together similar groups under a thematic umbrella
In addition to these two features, WhatsApp launched a feature called WhatsApp Communities. The feature is designed to bring together groups under a thematic umbrella, because there are many different types of groups on WhatsApp. Communities will be residential neighborhoods, parents in schools, workplaces and more. This is another step in Meta’s vision to build communities to enable people around the world to join together in the groups that matter to them.
The idea behind the feature is to build a new community, define its general theme and then create new groups or add existing groups. “Once we are in a community, we can easily switch between available groups to get the information we need, when we need it, while community managers can send important updates to the entire community,” the WhatsApp message reads.
Another feature under development, according to the WABetaInfo service, is “Companion mode” – which will allow the same WhatsApp account to be used on several smartphones at the same time.
