DO Empordà exceeds 6 million bottles sold in 2022

The DO Empordà has sold more than 6 million bottles during 2022, 3% more than the previous year. This is the first time that the denomination of origin has surpassed this barrier, after reaching 5.8 million in 2021.

The Girona market remains the main consumer of DO Empordà, with 50% of sales. On the other hand, sales in the rest of Catalonia have also grown and have gone from 20% in 2021 to 23.4% in 2022.

The DO Empordà harvest decreases by almost 8% compared to the average of the last decade and by 4% compared to 2021

The increase is concentrated in the regions of Barcelona, ​​where the regulatory council of the DO and the Empordà wineries have focused commercial actions to make Girona wines known. Exports have dropped from 8 to 6.6%, which amounts to 383,146 bottles.

Dand the more than 6 million bottles distributed throughout 2022 and sales in the rest of the State they accounted for 3.4% of registered business. In terms of exports, the main markets have been Switzerland, Germany, the United States, Belgium, China, the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom.

Black wins

By type of vi, black continues to be the most successful variety of DO Empordà, with 3.4 million bottles. In second place are white wines (1.7 million bottles) and rosé wines are in third place, with 642,425 bottles. The denomination has also sold 99,088 bottles of sweet wines.
