Amir of the party informed the position of Jamaat against any oppression. Shafiqur Rahman said, those who will file a case, please understand our request. Do not make a person unjustly accused of a case. If you put one innocent person with a hundred sinners, you have done extreme injustice. We do not want this to be done. Anything else should be done with the case, we absolutely do not like it. Although we are extremely oppressed; But in this case we have to show extreme caution.

He said this to the lawyers and activists at the lawyers’ gathering organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat at the Diploma Engineers Institution in the capital on Thursday.

In the speech of the chief guest, Shafiqur Rahman said, we always heard that the judiciary is independent. I used to hear that no one is above the law, the law is equal for all. But those who have protested against the injustice, the case has been filed in their name; And the wrongdoers have been given protection.

He said, now it will be a little equal, inshallah. He did not understand how the law is equal. Now you should understand each one according to his due justice. But yes, we are against any oppression.

“If anyone files a case with the fear of God, taking care not to spoil the rights of any people, we will give them full legal support. I will be by their side; But if someone does something else to achieve the goal, we are not with him,’ said the Amir of the party clearly.

Referring to the case-harassment of the previous government, Amir of Jamaat said, ‘I do not want to make any claim regarding the case-lawsuit here. Why should the claim be made? People who have suffered through harassing political cases should be acquitted without delay. And the interim government should file a case against them (the previous government).

Claiming that democracy is practiced only in Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the Amir of the party said that Jamaat-e-Islami understands democracy and believes in democracy. That is why the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami is not limited to individuals or families like other parties.

He said that if the people of the country have faith and trust in Jamaat-e-Islami and give the responsibility of running the country in the hands of Jamaat, then all the wealth smuggled out of the country will be brought back to the country. Bangladesh will come out of the culture of injustice.

Demanding two roadmaps from the interim government, Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘We are saying, giving one roadmap will not do. Two roadmaps should be given. The first roadmap will be reform. They will do reform work on what matters. And the second will be about the reform period.’

‘If this (roadmap) is successful, then the second roadmap will also be successful. If the first does not succeed, the second is not necessary. Nothing will happen with that. And to fix the first one, there must be a consensus with the stakeholders, the political stakeholders, the civil society, others, that there will be reforms and reforms on this timeline.

‘If the interim government does these things, then their names will be written in golden letters; But if they deviate by a hair’s breadth from here, then the destruction of the nation will be by their hands. We want to avoid this fear and remain optimistic. We will urge them to open dialogue on reforms soon and come to a conclusion and they will proceed accordingly,” added Jamaat’s Amir.

He further said, ‘If the reforms proceed along this roadmap, we believe there will not be much need for months. It is possible within a specific period of time. When it reaches a stage of perfection, it should be given the roadmap for elections. Can’t delay anymore. Because going to elections means going back to democracy. Democracy has been slaughtered in the country. A term was coined—developmental democracy. Never heard of it anywhere in the world. Democracy is democracy, development is the responsibility of the state. This is no mercy.’

Shafiqur Rahman said that people have many expectations from the interim government, but if all the expectations are fulfilled by an unelected interim government, then what is the need of the elected government; And what can they do? It is not their job. That is why there is a demand from the political parties that the election roadmap should be given.

Commenting that Awami League has died politically through the revolution achieved by the students, Shafiqur Rahman said that Sheikh Hasina has destroyed not only the country but also her party (Awami League) in the last 15 years. With the escape of Sheikh Hasina, all the activities of her party Awami League have stopped. There is no person in Awami League who can manage the party or take control of the party. Because Awami League does not practice democracy. They confined politics to individuals or families.
