The tax authorities will not grant a new deadline. Owners have until Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. to declare their property(ies) online. This new procedure, entirely dematerialized, was initially due to end on June 30. But, faced with the difficulties encountered by some taxpayers, the tax authorities had granted an additional month to complete the process.

About 34 million French people are affected. The declaration of the situation of real estate, separate from the declaration of income, is made on the tax site, in the section “Manage my real estate” in your personal space. France Bleu specifies that it is also possible to carry out this process by telephone on 0809 401 401 or by going to the nearest France Services house.

The taxpayer risks a fine of 150 euros

As a reminder, this new obligation aims to know in what capacity the dwellings are occupied. The tax authorities can thus identify the owners still liable for housing tax on second homes or tax on vacant housing.

The process may seem relatively simple. All real estate appears on the taxpayer’s personal space with the occupation data available to the tax authorities pre-filled. If they are correct, the user only has to validate. But many taxpayers were surprised when they discovered the information related to their accommodation. The tax administration indeed counts all the documents and does not apply the Carrez law. Subtleties that led to misunderstandings and a wave of calls to tax centers.

If you do not declare your real estate, you risk a fine of a lump sum of 150 euros per property. But the tax authorities should be pedagogical for this first year and will send reminders without financial penalty.
