Digitization and Net Banking are helping people to make banking transactions more easily. However, with the increasing use of online banking, cases of online fraud and cyber-crime continue to rise.

However, fraudsters have adopted a new technique to defraud SBI account holders. State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a warning to its customers to increase awareness about this scam. This scam is related to the commonly used QR code.

With digitisation, you can now send money easily by scanning mobile numbers, bank details and QR codes. Meanwhile, SBI has asked customers to remember some security tips during UPI payment and has advised them not to scan the QR code for the purpose of receiving money from someone. Because SBI has mentioned that it is only used when sending money to others. SBI has tweeted to remember important security tips every time you make UPI payments.

SBI has warned that the customer should use the QR code scanning option only to make the payment and scanning the QR code with the intention of receiving money from someone may result in loss of account balance. If you receive a message or mail asking you to scan the QR code in the name of receiving payment, do not scan it even by mistake. This may void your account. Because experts say you won’t get paid while scanning a QR code.

Below are some security tips to remember during UPI payment…

– UPI PIN is required only to transfer money, not to receive it

– Always check mobile number, name and UPI ID before sending money

– Do not share your UPI PIN with anyone

– It is always better to use the scanner only for cash transactions

– In case of any problem seek solution from official sources. Consult the Help section of the payment app you use for payment or technical issues.

– In case of discrepancies go to sbi’s complaint handling portal https://crcf.sbi.co.in/ccf for redressal
