DECRYPTION – Since the start of the invasion, Russia has lost at least a third of the tanks it originally launched on the battlefield. Has this weapon, which was making a comeback, become obsolete?
When Russia launched its “special military operation“, on February 24, his strike force was enough to make people shudder. With more than 150,000 soldiers engaged, supported by 1,200 to 1,500 tanks and some 3,000 armored vehicles, the Kremlin army had given itself the means, on paper, to win the decision. But after 41 days of war, the losses are heavy: according to the Oryx site, which counts Russian material losses based on visual evidence, Russia has already lost 427 tanks as of April 6, whether they have been destroyed, damaged , abandoned or captured. That is an average of ten per day and a third of their initially hired staff. Among these losses, we count a majority of old T-60s, T-72s and T-80s, but also some more modern T-90s.
