A bill aimed at repealing the pension reform will be submitted to the National Assembly for a vote. MEPs have already spoken out in favor of returning to the age of 62.
This is one of the big topics of the week. A legislative proposal aimed at repealing the pension reform and bringing the retirement age back to 62 will be put to the vote of deputies. The text is supported by all the deputies of the National Rally who, like the New Popular Front, have made this issue a strong point. Thursday 31 October, the day of debates in the National Assembly will be entirely dedicated to the proposals of the far-right political group, which intends to deal a heavy blow especially to the pension issue.
The end of retirement at 64 is an idea mainly defended at the Palais Bourbon since the left and the far right, both defenders of this change, represent more than half of the Assembly’s elected representatives. A trend that was recently confirmed during the vote in the Social Affairs Committee in which the repeal of the reform was adopted. What to roll out a red carpet for Marine Le Pen?
Not so fast. Before possibly entering into force, the text will have to overcome a whole series of political pitfalls, including ideological wars and constitutional obstacles. For the RN it is a real obstacle course, the outcome of which is more than uncertain. But the Lepenists’ proposal should only be a first step. Other repeal attempts are already expected in the coming weeks.
