Velu’s wife Palaniammal (age 75) hails from Malaikudipatti village near Viralimalai in Pudukottai district. They have 3 daughters and a son. Son Subramani is married and lives in the same town with his wife Kanaku (42) and a son. As her husband died, Palaniammal stayed with her son.
Subramani, who was going to work as an agricultural laborer, came home last night after finishing work as usual. Then after eating together with wife, son and mother everyone went to sleep. Palaniammal, who was suffering from a headache due to the impact of the snow, asked her daughter-in-law Kanaku to make some hot tea. Kanaku, who was sleeping, got up and brought tea to his mother-in-law. By then the tea has cooled down a lot. Enraged by this, Palaniammal scolded her daughter-in-law.
He asks why are you scolding me like this without thanking me for making me tea in the middle of the night and he started an argument. At one point Kanaku got angry because of the dispute and picked up an iron rod lying nearby and attacked the mother-in-law without even looking at her. In this Palaniammal, who suffered serious injuries on his head and face, screamed in pain.
Hearing this, Palaniammal’s son Subramani, who woke up from his sleep, and the neighbors gathered and rescued Palaniammal, who was fighting for his life, and took him to the Viralimalai Government Hospital. But there he died miserably shortly after the treatment failed. The Ilupur police rushed to get information about this and recovered the body of Palaniammal and sent it for post-mortem. They also registered a case in connection with the murder and arrested Kanaku.
