Do you know why Nitya Menon didn’t like “Thai Kealavi”?

Thai Kelavi, the latest song from Thiruchitambalam, which released in Tamil last Friday, has created a viral sensation with many fans dancing in theaters during the film. The song has the main stars of the film, Dhanush and Nithya Menon (also featuring Priya Bhavani Shankar), dancing in a village. The song’s scenario involves Dhanush’s character trying to cheer up his childhood friend, played by Nithya Menon, and ‘affectionately’ describing her as ‘Thai Kealavi’ (a term popularized in the 1994 blockbuster film Nattam).

Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the song is very grassroots, but when its audio was released, it received criticism for some of its lyrics, including the word ‘Thai Kelavi’. Now, there has been another downfall in the song’s massive success. Some fans have started describing Nithya Menon as ‘Thai Kelavi’, trying to convey it as an affectionate comment that shows their love for Shobana, who plays the actress in the film.

However, this didn’t go down well with Nithya Menon, who mentioned that she doesn’t like being called by the term and asked fans to refrain from doing so. In a video that is now going viral, she says, “Please don’t call me ‘Thai Kalavi’. Please don’t start calling me ‘Thai Kelavi’. I don’t want that name,” the actress can be seen pleading.

It seems that the actress enjoyed dancing during the shoot. “I dance but too commercial—ah, mass—I don’t. I avoid dancing. But after a long time, Dhanush made me dance in Tiruchirampala. So I said to him, ‘Thank you very much. I don’t dance. In a long time,” he said in the video.

Even during the film’s promotions, Nithya Menon was far removed from her real-life personality Shobana and asked the audience not to confuse the two.
