Prosecutor Diana Salazar insists that assemblywoman Gissela Garzón provided private information to former president Rafael Correa.

On July 19, State Prosecutor Diana Salazar confirmed the accusation against the assembly member of the Citizen Revolution, Gissela Garzón, in relation to the dissemination of private information about her pregnancy.

Salazar said there are several elements that would show that the legislator had access to a recent medical report on the state of pregnancy and shared it with former President Rafael Correa.

In an interview with journalist Janet Hinostroza, the prosecutor revealed that on June 18 she sent the Legislative Administration Council (CAL) of the Assembly an update of the medical certificate regarding her pregnancy.

He did so, despite the fact that this body had not requested it, as a way of making transparent the situation that led to the suspension of the impeachment against him.

Garzón allegedly had access to this certificate when she was invited to a closed session of the CAL in which she requested that a follow-up be made to the statement by the Attorney General’s Office with which the trial was suspended.

«This private information is exposed in account X by the fugitive from justice (Rafael Correa), who uses his social networks to defame,” the prosecutor said.

There, Correa described Salazar’s situation as a democratic fraud, referred to the diagnosis and the weeks of gestation (although erroneously, according to the prosecutor) and warned the doctor who issued the certificates about the consequences of providing false documents.

«The assemblywoman passes the information to the fugitive from justice who, as he is a fugitive, cannot face the action of justice. Diana Salazar, fiscal General

The prosecutor is also concerned that threatening the doctor who treats him with sanctions is intended to intimidate any health professional who dares to certify his health status.

“Do they want to restrict my right to health? Is that as far as we’re going to go?”

“Even in war there are codes, but we see that this organization has no limits,” claimed prosecutor Diana Salazar.

Despite her health condition, the official said that she remains in charge of the cases being investigated, such as Metastasis, Purge and Judicial Independence, and that, together with her team, she will continue to process them before the courts.

Wilman Teran impeached

Although she preferred not to give much importance to the failed attempt to censure the former president of the Judicial Council (CJ), Wilman Terán, in the Assembly, the prosecutor issued some criteria on the matter.

He said that one is the legal scenario and the other the political one, in which, he assured, he has nothing to say, beyond describing Terán’s presence in the Assembly as a show.

He recalled, however, that the former president of the Judiciary faces two trials: one for organized crime and another for obstructing justice, despite which he received a lifeline and even “applause” from the Citizen Revolution.

Meanwhile, “As far as criminal liability is concerned, you have to go and prove it, you can’t just say anything to be applauded. The State Attorney General’s Office is ready to prove liability in these proceedings,” he added.
