If you need to go to an appointment with a general practitioner, a specialist or a dentist, be prepared to pay 7% more, on average, than in February. Due to the adaptation of parameters for medical care and updated prices, the cost of consultations has increased, reveals the Luxembourg Statistics Institute (Statec) in its monthly note on inflation in the country.
Another of the services that rose in price were airline tickets, which became 8% more expensive. Also in package holidays, costs rose 5.9%. In petroleum products, gasoline increased by 1.4%.
The national consumer price index rose 0.2% this month in Luxembourg. An increase that is due to the rise in service costs, reveals Statec. Prices rose but annual inflation fell from 3.2% to 3.1%.
In relation to the food basket, going to the market costs 3% more than in the previous month.
Olive oil with the highest increase
Olive oil once again became the item that increased in price in March (+8.0%), as was the case in February. This is followed by children’s food (+5.1%), fresh seafood (+4.2%) and chocolate (+3.9%).

Speaking of sweets, chocolate, honey, jams and pastries had the biggest annual increase, among all products in the food basket, plus 8.69% between March 2023 and March this year.
Among all the goods and services evaluated, the leader in annual price increases were trips organized by a provider of this service, such as a travel agency, where the cost increased by 22.63% between March of last year and March of this year.
In the annual comparison, the food basket increased by 2.8% compared to March 2023.
Goods that dropped in price
On the other hand, among the products and services that, in March, dropped in price compared to February are fresh vegetables (-4.3%), fresh fish (-4.4% and potatoes (-1.5%).
Olive oil sees biggest increase in Luxembourg
In petroleum products, diesel fell by 2.0% and mazout also fell by 4.6%. If in relation to February, products derived from black gold decreased by 0.8%, in the annual comparison they increased by 1.1%.
As for the annual inflation rate, it fell from 3.2% to 3.1%.
